The Faculty of Built Environment (FBE) has four professional programmes tailored to meet the nation’s
construction and real estate sectors’ manpower requirements. Established initially as an Architecture programme under the
Faculty of Engineering in 1995, the Faculty has since emerged to be one of University of Malaya’s leading education programmes
dedicated to producing graduates who are highly employable and are adept with the current issues in the industry.
The FBE's professional programmes are Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Estate Management,
Bachelor of Building Surveying and Bachelor of Quantity Surveying all of which are accredited at both national and international
levels. At the national level, the programmes are recognized by the National Accreditation Board, the Public Services Department,
as well as the respective local professional Boards with the exception of the Building Surveying programme, which has yet
to fall under a professional body.
The faculty also offers post graduate programmes by research for Master of Science (Architecture), Master of Science (Building)
and Master of Science (Estate Management). A new postgraduate programme by coursework, the Master of Real Estate, will be
offered in Semester I, 2007/2008 Academic Session.
Internationally, the FBE’s Bachelor of Building Surveying have received recognition from the Association of Building Engineers
(ABE), United Kingdom; while the Bachelor of Estate Management, Bachelor of Building Surveying and Bachelor of Quantity Surveying
have each earned their respective accreditations from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), United Kingdom.
Both the FBE’s Bachelor of Science in Architecture and the Bachelor of Architecture programs have obtained validation from
the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), United Kingdom. The RIBA’s recognition is considered an achievement as it
is currently the only program in Malaysia recognized by the institute; and one of only two, which is recognized by them in
the Southeast Asian region.
The validations of these programmes both nationally and internationally were obtained in the shortest possible time. The international
recognition of its programmes has endorsed the FBE to be at par with other international institutes of higher learning.
