The Centre for Conservation Studies and Records (CORE) is one of the most active research
centers in the Faculty of the Built Environment, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. It was established in 1999 under the
name of Building Conservation & Records (BCR) and was restructured in 2005 with broader objectives to research, record
and disseminate knowledge on conservation of cultural heritage.
The Centre aims to be the leading research centre on cultural property in the region.
Objective
To promote research on the area of building conservation, urban conservation, conservation
technology and conservation management.
To provide professional advice on the appropriate methodology of conservation so as to achieve quality restoration
To implement conservation projects and/or to be consultant to the government.
To archive documentation of old and notable buildings in Malaysia; in the form of measured drawings, reports, prints and films.
To provide training and courses to professionals, contractors, heritage managers and students on conservation policy
and practice.
To offer subjects related to conservation to both undergraduate and postgraduate students
To provide data base of expertise, labs and other centers related to conservation for easy reference and networking.
