Objectives



The Institute of Principalship Studies aims to be a center of excellence in the field of educational leadership and school principalship by providing pre-service courses to prospective principals and continuous in-service professional development programmes. Specifically, the main objectives of the Institute for Principalship Studies are as follows:

  • To provide in-service training to prospective principals from the teaching personnel in the field of leadership and management of educational institution under the Master and Doctoral Programmes in Principalship ;
  • To be a center for in-service professional development programmes for principals of secondary and primary schools, senior assistants and headmasters by continuously:
    (i) providing short term courses of international standard
    (ii) being a center of networking for educational practitioners as members of the Institute
  • To be a center of excellence in research and development in the area of principalship training and school improvement; and
  • To be a regional center of excellence in educational leadership and principalship training, and a networking center for the development of post-graduate academic training programmes in principalship.

QUALITY OBJECTIVES

PT 01
1. To ensure 90% graduate students successfully complete their graduate study within the maximum duration specified
2. To ensure 25% graduate students pass with distinction
PT 02
1. To ensure 80% lecturers are involved in research work funded internally by University of Malaya or externally by other agencies
2. Targeting 70% lecturers produce at least two academic publications a year
