This exercise is designed to provide students with the necessary
knowledge and skills as civil engineers, including basic knowledge of the proficient application of field and office procedures
as well as skillful utilization of surveying instrumentation. Upon successful completion of this exercise, students will have
gained the following competencies:
· Understand the concept of surveying as both
an art and science
· Understand
surveying applications in the planning, design, layout, and construction of our physical
environment and infrastructure
· Understand common field and
office practices and procedures used in surveying
· Understand accuracy and precision requirements for basic surveying
applications
· Demonstrate the application of surveying methods and instrumentation
for horizontal and vertical control
· Perform closure computations for vertical and horizontal control
circuits
· Utilize coordinate measurement systems of simple traverses.
Instructional
Process: The course
is designed to introduce students to the application of survey knowledge and skills. The course is organized around a series
of interrelated theoretical topics and field work (hands-on). A significant portion of the field work is
technical, which have already been covered through lecture, class discussion, and supported by field work. Your success in this course, and thus your
learning experience, depends on your participation in both field work and processing of data. Students will be divided into
groups of seven or eight people.

Field Camp Presentation:
This work
must be prepared in Powerpoint. It must be presented on the due date at the end of the survey camp i.e.at or before 1700 hrs. on the last day
of the camp period.
Late submission will not be accepted.
Attendance:
Perfect
and punctual attendance is expected. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each morning (8.00am). Frequent lateness is unacceptable;
students who come late will be considered absent.
